Why I'm Walking

Happy Valley

As you know, Penn State is a major part of who I am. Many traditions are born out of Penn State’s land-grant public mission and instilled throughout the student and alumni family. One tradition that is important to me is the student dance marathon (THON).

If you are not familiar with THON, it is a yearlong student-run philanthropy that provides financial and emotional support to children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Since 1977, THON has raised more than $127 million to battle childhood cancer and benefit the Four Diamonds Foundation at the Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey.

As I transition from 23 ½ years of active duty service in the U.S. Navy to a new position with Penn State Health, I am asking you to join me to support this worthy cause.

On September 1, 2016, I am walking from Bethesda, MD, to State College, PA. My goal is to raise $50,000 to support THON 2017. To do this, I need your help. Your pledge will go a long way in enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer.

I am coordinating my fundraising efforts with THON student leaders, the Penn State Alumni Association, and the College of the Liberal Arts to help spread the word of my journey home to Happy Valley to help achieve our $50,000 goal.
